Home / Mariñas Coruñesas and Terras do Mandeo Biosphere Reserve
This Biosphere Reserve offers an exceptional territory that stretches from the Atlantic cliffs and estuaries to the inland valleys and mountain ranges. Its more than 100 km of rugged coastline features islets and cliffs that are home to one of the largest populations of European shags on the Galician coast. The estuaries and beaches that line this coastline serve as refuges and feeding grounds for numerous migratory birds, and also as breeding grounds for the endangered Kentish Plover.
The Mero and Mandeo river basins preserve magnificent riparian forests, which serve as ecological corridors for flora and fauna and connect important "fragas," or native mixed forest areas. The Biosphere Reserve's commitment to sustainability is reflected in the promotion of organic and local agricultural production, with products such as wines, fruits, and craft beers.
With an exciting range of interpreted trails, wildlife observation, and sustainable nautical experiences, Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo is a vibrant, year-round destination that combines nature, culture, and local development.
