Scientific expedition to the Cíes Islands. Sailing on a schooner

You'll feel like an explorer aboard this traditional vessel, built in Galicia in 1912 at the Freixo port shipyards on the Muros and Noia estuary.

Description

This vessel is 18,70 meters long, 5 meters wide, and 1,65 meters deep. It is rigged with two masts built in the style of the period and square sails, also made of standard materials. We will sail if the group is experienced in this type of voyage.
The goal of these expeditions is to raise awareness among visitors through knowledge provided by guides specialized in different topics.

What does it entail? We'll wake up early to arrive at the island early. We'll disembark at Rodas Beach to discover one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the world, with the island practically empty. Furthermore, this experience will contribute to a citizen science project, collecting oceanographic data to analyze how ocean productivity varies over time, allowing visitors to learn how scientists work. With this experience, we want you to feel like a scientist for a day and get to know the unique marine ecosystem that gave rise to the creation of the Islas Atlánticas de Galicia Maritime-Terrestrial National Park, undoubtedly a unique place in the world.

On the way back, we'll also visit the fishing fleet to learn about the work of the seafarers. To conclude the day, we'll have the opportunity to dive in the waters of the National Park without getting wet thanks to new technologies. Using virtual reality headsets, the group will enjoy an immersive underwater experience with 360º images, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the landscapes hidden on the islands beyond the surface and gain a deeper understanding of the biodiversity that makes this place unique.
Opening hours: 08.00:16.00 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.

Sustainable tourism

These expeditions are the result of a union of small businesses that share common values regarding respect and environmental awareness. We participated in the following proposal:

Bluscus Marine Tourism:
Committed to promoting the maritime professions and maritime culture of Galicia. They come from Galician seafaring families.
Extensive knowledge of fishing environments and traditional navigation. Only through knowledge will it be possible to respect and protect maritime heritage.

North Wind Scientific Tourism:
A team of marine scientists who firmly believe that knowledge is the best way to conserve Galicia's natural marine heritage. We want to convey the message of the importance of the ocean in our lives by using citizen science as a powerful tool to bring marine research closer to society.
Its mission will be achieved by creating tourism and educational experiences that are always framed within scientific activities, through which citizens can collaborate on projects with public research institutions.
