Home / Filandeiras, the traditional trade.
Wool spinning (filado, as they say here) is a technique that is disappearing. At Casa Soto, a hotel steeped in history located in Vegadeo, we have learned from the local women who practiced it and aim to recover the technique and tools needed to develop it through this experience that we want to share with our guests.
In the past, in the rural areas of this reserve, it was common for women, after finishing their chores and under the light of a candle, to spin yarn to make clothes for the family until sleep overtook them. Washing the wool, skeining, carding, spinning, twisting, and knitting. These are the steps involved in making a pair of socks.
This activity preserves nature through the use of sheep wool, avoiding waste and ensuring that the production of garments with this wool is completely ecological, so the environment is not harmed by dyes or chemicals used in wool processing.
