Home / cheesemaker for a day
We will be lucky enough to see and cross some of the most famous meadows where shepherds have always worked and grazed their cows, goats and sheep and where the huts in which they lived are located.
We will enjoy an unparalleled panorama of the Picos de Europa and We will be able to recognize the king of the Peaks: the Naranjo de Bulnes, which will be present, before our eyes, in all its beauty.
The route, which lasts approximately 5 hours (2 hours each way depending on the participants' physical level), will begin in one of the most important towns for Cabrales cheese: Tielve. Its cultural heritage, its houses, and its locals hold many vivid stories that we will be fortunate enough to learn about.
We'll walk for about two hours, following the exact route the cheesemaker takes with his mules to carry the cheeses to the cave. During the tour, we'll explain how Cabrales Cheese was made and continues to be made. Cabrales Cheese, one of the most famous cheeses in Spain and recognized nationally and internationally for its countless awards, will be made all over the world.
Once past the "majadas", as the meadows, huts and cattle are called, We will enter a spectacular beech forest at the foot of Mount Camba. A path will take us to the cave where the cheesemakers leave their cheeses for melast and where they work, clean and take care of them until they are ready for sale.
Upon arriving at the cave, we can enter and visit it, and if the cheesemaker happens to be working with the cheeses, we'll also have the chance to witness and discover his beautiful work.
After having enjoyed this great experience, we will return to the village from Tielve. The meeting point will be Arenas de Cabrales in the parking lot at 9:00 and We will take the bus to Tielve. We want to avoid contamination with the cars, when it can be avoided.
