Home / Hiking in the Collados del Asón Natural Park with Accommodation
If there's one thing the Cantabrian region is widely known for, it's its rich landscapes, splendid natural surroundings, and intense greenery. With such a description, it's no wonder Cantabria is such a popular destination among hiking enthusiasts who yearn to immerse themselves in nature.
This corner of the Collados del Asón Natural Park is dedicated to them: the source of the Asón River, a 70-meter-high waterfall that boasts its own legend about a forgotten spell and two witch sisters as its protagonists.
This guided and interpreted hiking route to the source of the Asón River offers interpretive stops where the guide will explain the natural environment, emphasizing the native flora and fauna and the influence that glaciation had on the formation of the landscape.
The route, which runs along the riverbank from the town of Asón, leaving behind, first of all, the neighborhood of San Antonio, and to the right of the path, the deep Canal de Rolacías, which gives access to the high cabins at the base of Porracolina: Sotombo, and El Chumino, is an invitation to enjoy the scenic and ecological values offered by the upper basin of the Asón River.
Visiting Cailagua Waterfall is one of those experiences you can't miss because it's one of the most beautiful in Spain and also hides a beautiful legend.
Afterwards we will rest at Casa Rural Alvarado.

Travel Guide
Companies are committed to respecting and protecting the natural environment throughout their activities, in order to preserve Cantabria's natural beauty throughout the year.
The responsible use of natural resources will be promoted, and measures will be established to minimize environmental damage, thus ensuring a sustainable tourism experience in harmony with nature.
During outdoor activities, we encourage our guests to leave no trace. This means taking everything they bring with them to avoid negative impacts. We use marked trails or spaces whenever possible to avoid disturbing the environment and negatively impacting conservation and the experience of other visitors. We avoid damaging vegetation, eroding soil, and disturbing sensitive habitats.
Deseasonalization of Tourism:
By offering an immersive experience in the natural environment throughout the year, dependence on the peak season will be reduced, benefiting both local residents and tourists.
Environmental and Cultural Awareness:
Both companies will make ongoing efforts to educate and raise awareness among participants about the importance of environmental and cultural conservation in Cantabria.
Information will be provided on threats to the environment, and actions tourists can take to minimize their impact and contribute to year-round sustainability will be highlighted.
Responsible use of energy and waste management:
The management of Casa Rural Alvarado will promote responsible energy use, providing a guide to best practices to guide guests toward achieving this goal and reducing the impact of tourism on the environment.
A rigorous waste management system will also be implemented both during the stay and throughout the experience, with the goal of reducing, reusing, and recycling materials in all operations. The use of biodegradable products will be promoted, and the use of single-use plastics will be minimized to reduce the environmental impact and preserve Cantabria's natural beauty for future generations.
