Somiedo Experience. Bear watching in Somiedo

At Somiedo Experience, we'll teach you about the habits, behavior, and conservation of the Cantabrian Brown Bear in its incredible natural habitat, within the Somiedo Natural Park, while you enjoy a walk along beautiful trails where plantigrade bears and other wildlife roam.

Description

We also want you to become aware of the values and biological richness of this natural area, of the importance of the conservation efforts we support, and how, thanks to them, the Cantabrian brown bear has managed to survive in the mountains and increase its population in recent years.
Nothing can be planned in Somiedo. Everything we see will depend on the behavior of the wildlife and the weather at the time.

Ecotourism Commitment

Through our interpretive trails, we highlight both our natural and ethnographic heritage and share the best ways to enjoy and preserve it. We conduct wildlife viewing, prioritizing conservation over observation or photography, and taking into account the local population's needs to minimize interference with their daily activities.

Regarding the conservation of the Park's most emblematic species, the Cantabrian brown bear, our commitment is especially significant both from an informative perspective - we undoubtedly believe that knowledge of a species is key to promoting its conservation - and from the perspective of collaboration with the Park authorities, as we provide them with all the information we gather during our activities about the individuals we encounter and interesting details.

We have also collaborated with the administration by providing photographs for various publications related to Somiedo.
Another aspect to consider is our reporting efforts if we observe illegal conservation-related activities within the Park, such as disturbances caused to the bears by visitors.

Sustainable tourism

We are the first active tourism company in Somiedo to join the Natura 2000 Network's Sustainability Recognition System for Nature Tourism.

Garbage collection and minimal fuel consumption are part of our work to conserve the land where we work and live.
