It\u2019s rare to find a town in northern Spain without ideal promenades for those who like to walk along the coast calmly and attentively. It happens in Getxo, among stately mansions and family beaches; in Suances, transporting us through estuaries and cliffs; in Ribadesella, offering us Indian-style architecture and the odd dinosaur footprint; and in A Coru\u00f1a, with a promenade so long and rich it could take up a whole day. Here are four suggestions to discover the northern coastline from a more serene and close-up perspective.<\/i><\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3374\" src=\"https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/getxo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/getxo.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/getxo-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/getxo-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"p2\"><b>Getxo (Bizkaia, Euskadi)<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>How long is the promenade of Getxo?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">The promenade of <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.euskadi.eus\/en\/towns\/getxo\/webtur00-content\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Getxo<\/span><\/a> stretches for approximately four kilometers, from the Bizkaia Bridge in Las Arenas\/Areeta to the Old Port of Algorta, skirting the coast and offering spectacular views over the Bilbao Estuary, the Bay of Abra or the gleaming summer villas of Neguri.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>For those who wish to extend the walk, it is possible to do so by going up to Algorta, passing by Arrigunaga Beach and, from the Aixerrota windmill, following the path along the cliffs of Punta Galea. In total, another five kilometers of walking can be added.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>What are the main attractions of the Getxo promenade?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.euskadi.eus\/en\/top10\/cultural-heritage\/portugaletes-bizkaia-transporter-bridge\/webtur00-recursostop\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Bizkaia Bridge<\/span><\/a>: also known as the Hanging Bridge, connects Getxo with Portugalete and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the oldest transporter bridge in the world still in operation, transporting people and vehicles in its suspended gondola.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Old Port of Algorta: a charming fishing quarter of cobbled (and steep) streets, white houses with colorful windows and a maritime atmosphere. It is one of the favorite places for locals from Getxo to go for pintxos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; Architectural icons: The promenade is full of stimuli but there are three buildings, almost next to each other, that always leave an impression on everyone who comes across them: the Shipwrecked Sailors&#8217; House, the unique Punta Bego\u00f1a galleries and the sumptuous villas of Neguri.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.euskadi.eus\/en\/beaches-reservoirs-rivers\/ereaga-beach\/webtur00-content\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Ereaga Beach<\/span><\/a>. A wide urban beach with all services, excellent views and very comfortable for families.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/tourism.euskadi.eus\/en\/beaches-reservoirs-rivers\/arrigunaga-beach\/webtur00-content\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arrigunaga Beach<\/a><\/span>. Located in a more natural and less urbanized environment, sheltered by cliffs. It has a pioneering skatepark in Spain with more than 40 years of history.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p2\"><b>Suances (Cantabria)<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>How long is the promenade of Suances?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">The promenade of <a href=\"https:\/\/turismodecantabria.com\/municipios\/suances\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Suances<\/span><\/a> extends approximately 2.5 kilometers, from La Ribera Beach to Punta del Dichoso. This route borders the mouth of the San Mart\u00edn de la Arena estuary and La Concha Beach, offering views of the Cantabrian Sea and the rocky formations of the coast. \u200bThose walkers who want more can take advantage of the red-marked pedestrian shoulder that leads to Tagle and passes near the western cliffs. From the Tablilla viewpoint, there are very good views of these rock walls.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>What are the main attractions of the Suances promenade?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/turismodecantabria.com\/playas\/playa-de-la-concha-suances\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">La Concha Beach<\/span><\/a>. The main urban beach of Suances, with approximately 800 meters in length, is a wide, comfortable beach with all services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/turismodecantabria.com\/blog\/ruta-de-la-piedra-blanca-en-suances-un-tesoro-natural-en-la-costa-cantabrica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Punta del Dichoso<\/span><\/a>. Rocky promontory at the end of the promenade, a great viewpoint with panoramic views of the entire coast and a curious fact for music lovers: it was here that the photo for the cover of \u2018El Mar que no Cesa\u2019, the first album of H\u00e9roes del Silencio, one of the most popular Spanish-language rock bands in history, was taken.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/turismodecantabria.com\/playas\/playa-de-los-locos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Los Locos Beach<\/span><\/a>. Located to the north of Punta del Dichoso and very exposed to the fury of the Cantabrian Sea, it is known for its surfing conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/turismodecantabria.com\/faro\/faro-de-punta-del-torco-de-afuera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">The lighthouse and defensive walls of El Torco<\/span><\/a>. In the past, the lighthouse guided ships and the walls protected the port entrance. Today, the old defenses house the Summer Courses of the University of Cantabria and an art gallery.<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3380\" src=\"https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Ribadesella.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Ribadesella.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Ribadesella-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Ribadesella-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"p2\"><b>Ribadesella (Asturias)<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>How long is the promenade of Ribadesella?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">From the town bridge to the Punta del Pozo viewpoint along the Santa Marina promenade there are just over two kilometers of pleasant walking along a typically Cantabrian corridor: a wide and comfortable walkway next to an emblematic railing and accompanied by some of the most beautiful summer villas on the northern coast. Those who want to keep walking (and adding kilometers) can do so along the other side of the estuary: along the equally popular Gr\u00faa promenade and then up to the La Gu\u00eda chapel on Mount Corbero. From Corbero you get the best views of the promenade, the villas and the well-known topography of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismoasturias.es\/en\/descubre\/costa\/villas-marineras\/marinera-ribadesella\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Ribadesella<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>What are the main attractions of the Ribadesella promenade?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; The villas (Villa Rosario, or the chalet of the Marquesa de Arg\u00fcelles and the Pi\u00f1\u00e1n mansion) that remind us that, over a hundred years ago, someone chose this corner of Asturias to enjoy the cool northern summers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; The Marina beach. Let\u2019s not forget that the very reason for the promenade is&#8230; its beach. It has pale, fine sand, all the services, is ideal for learning to surf, and since 1989, it hosts its popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismoasturias.es\/en\/descubre\/fiestas-de-interes-turistico\/carreras-de-caballos-de-la-playa-de-ribadesella\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">horse races<\/span><\/a> during Holy Week. You couldn&#8217;t ask for more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; Punta del Pozo viewpoint. When the tide is low, it\u2019s possible to follow the path over the rocks in search of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museojurasicoasturias.com\/en\/costa-de-los-dinosaurios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">dinosaur<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s1\"> <\/span>footprints, fossilized on the seabed and in the rocky walls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; La Gu\u00eda Chapel. Next to this charming little church is a plaque commemorating the passion a Belgian woman felt for Ribadesella who, along with her husband Marcel Gevers, fled their country during World War II: \u201cIn love with this beautiful place, I always wished that anyone visiting Asturias would admire this wonderful landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; The Mingote murals along the Gr\u00faa promenade. They narrate the history of Ribadesella in six stages, with the talent, graphics, and humor of the artist who passed away in 2012.<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3368\" src=\"https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Paseo-maritimo-coruna.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Paseo-maritimo-coruna.png 1440w, https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Paseo-maritimo-coruna-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/ingreenspain.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Paseo-maritimo-coruna-1024x683.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"p2\"><b>A Coru\u00f1a Promenade (A Coru\u00f1a, Galicia)<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>How long is the promenade of A Coru\u00f1a?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Quite a few kilometers: more than 15, to be exact. It\u2019s not a traditional promenade but rather the combination of several sections, some purely urban, others rustic, that allows you to spend over three hours (one way) walking along the sea with hardly any motor vehicle traffic. The route begins next to San Ant\u00f3n Castle and Marina Coru\u00f1a, winding along the entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismo.gal\/que-visitar\/cidades\/a-coruna?langId=es_ES\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Coru\u00f1a<\/span><\/a> coastline until reaching the small beach of Bens.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>What are the main attractions of the A Coru\u00f1a promenade?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; San Ant\u00f3n Castle. A fortress built in the 16th century to defend and control the city\u2019s port. Today, it houses the Archaeological and Historical Museum of A Coru\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; Tower of Hercules. A one-of-a-kind lighthouse. It has Roman origins and is considered the oldest functioning lighthouse in the world. A true symbol of A Coru\u00f1a that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismo.gal\/recurso\/-\/detalle\/31309\/aquarium-finisterrae.-casa-de-los-peces?langId=en_US&amp;ctre=21&amp;tp=63\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Aquarium Finisterrae<\/span><\/a>. Inaugurated in 1999, it presents Atlantic marine ecosystems and features areas that are very attractive to children, such as the interactive exhibition room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; Beaches of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismo.gal\/recurso\/-\/detalle\/9857\/riazor?langId=en_US&amp;ctre=15&amp;tp=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Riazor<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismo.gal\/recurso\/-\/detalle\/9856\/orzan?langId=en_US&amp;ctre=15&amp;tp=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Orz\u00e1n<\/span><\/a>: The city\u2019s most iconic beaches form a large shell-shaped sandy stretch open to the north, ideal for water sports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; Riazor Stadium. Home of Deportivo de La Coru\u00f1a and probably the football stadium closest to the sea<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>in Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; Millennium Obelisk. A 46-meter monument erected in 2001. It features illuminated fiber optics and a universal time clock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; Window to the Atlantic. A huge granite window, made from stones similar to those used in dolmens, that frames the ocean.
